Accelerating the Journey of Business Process to Software Code


Cordys is a completely new, and potentially a positive, disruptive approach to the IT world. Founded by Jan Baan, the legendary Founder of Baan ERP; Cordys has been built so that new applications can be developed from the business process angle. Map the process and workflow, identify information needed, connect to systems to get or deliver information and the system generates the code to integrate with systems. Change the process and the code is regenerated. Done this way also helps us to monitor compliance to the process.

It is designed to take advantage of today’s technologies and frameworks. It is SOA compliant, built using Java and Ajax; fully Webservices enabled and SaaS ready. It fully utilizes the concept of reusable processes that can be brought together in different ways to form process mash ups. The product has a Rapid Application Development platform that fits perfectly into the Agile Development world and provides fast paced easy to use tools to support integrating legacy applications. Above all this, the product presents itself simply, with clean UI’s and from a natural language not a technical perspective.

BPI Asia’s position is that Technology has changed very fast with more and more ways to conduct business. BUT the process of developing and maintaining applications has not changed. It requires domain experts to understand the business BUT then the process of converting this business need so that it can be expressed in IT terms, defining the systems, customizing and building code is a very lengthy and complex process depending on the technologies to be integrated.

We spend time preparing requirements specifications, tendering, customizing and implementing packages many of which could be a different technology. This is our CAPEX. Once implemented it does not end there. We spend more OPEX integrating between systems, more customization or building new systems to fill the design gaps in the packages.

This time consuming methodology has done nothing to close the gap between the Business User and IT professional. Business users see work from a process and results point of view. IT professionals see things from a tech and development point of view.

  • Working beside the business user, a map and workflow of the process is drawn and documented within Cordys.
  • Information such as input data, output data, business rules, decision and approval routing and expected performance information are added AND agreed with the user.
  • A new Rapid Application development approach then takes over. Each step in the process is architected technically worked on using a drag and drop approach, connecting to systems that already have that data, building clean simple graphical screens fitted to either a laptop or a mobile device and linking to the email or communications network to get information to the user for use or decisions.
  • Press a button and Cordys then generates the necessary run time code immediately including a feature that tracks how the process is being performed compared to the benchmarks set earlier.

It is as clean as that.

The Cordys product also applies the latest emerging standards such as SOA and Software as a Service. It comes standard with built in connectors to all the main databases and products like SAP. Most importantly it applies the concept of REUSABILITY.

Any process previously built or code previously developed is stored and is reusable elsewhere. This in turn shortens future development times.

As a result development times are slashed. What can take 3 - 6 months to develop now takes 2 - 3 weeks. The ROI is improved. The business can react faster to economic and environmental changes because systems can be adjusted faster. The business sees faster results. AND a record of whether the process is complying with benchmarks is given.
